Dementia Care and Cure Initiative Task Force

The St. Johns County Dementia Care and Cure Initiative (DCCI) Task Force is a FL Department of Elder Affairs sponsored program that “aims to build a more inclusive, kinder, respectful, and aware communities regarding those living with and affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.”

Our DCCI Task Force has six initiatives: 

  • Educating business owners and their employees on how to be a dementia caring business
  • Partnering with local healthcare providers to offer free/reduced cost dementia screenings at public spaces
  • Sharing resource materials in public areas and high traffic locations
  • Creating more in-person caregiver support groups
  • Creating Memory Cafes
  • Hosting an annual Caregiver Conference

Memory Cafés – Fall 2025

The DCCI Task Force will be hosting Memory Cafés starting in September 2025 at two locations in St. Johns County, FL:

Island Doctors Wellness, 2477 U.S. Rte-1, St. Augustine, FL 32086 (a few doors down from The Haven Attic) on the following dates:

    • The second Friday of each month – 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

    • Friday, October 24, 2025 – 1:30-3:00PM

    • Friday, December 19, 2025 – 1:30-3:00PM

Dementia Caregiver Conference Jan 2026 FINAL

Dementia Caregiver Conference

The St. Johns County Dementia Care and Cure Initiative DCCI Task Force will be holding a Dementia Caregiver Conference on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at COA’s River House, 179 Marine St., in St. Augustine, Florida.

Speakers will include Dr. Melanie Chandler, Mayo Clinic, at 10:00 a.m., and Dr. Sarah Dunlop of the Alzheimer’s Association at 10:30 a.m.

Qualified staff will be available to provide supervision for those with dementia whose caregver is unable to secure another means of supervision for their loved one.
